Chennai Express on Tracks

Arvind Chatterjee, our movie reviewer is back with another review. And this time he is disappointed, Being the hardcore Shahrukh Fan that he is, I know how much this review would have killed him 😉

“Don’t underestimate the power of Sha Rukh Khan”

well a differently abled beautiful girl in the theater made me say this when i saw her entering on a wheel chair who then had a real hard time getting herself fixed into a seat. (Kudos to her enthusiasm) and how can i not mention this guy who was fifing throughout the ‘Lungi dance’ but what i couldn’t figure out that, was it for Sharukh or Rajnikant? anyway, nevermind because its Chennai Express (CE) which would take all the credits.

Amidst of such zealful audience much awaited Chennai Express finally has been offered on this Eid by Rohit Shetty (The driver) & Sha Rukh Khan (The star passenger)

Once a very capable man said: ‘If you think that a particular movie would make a good ingridient alluded  to any of your conversation pertain to cinema ofcourse, after a good number of years. only then you can consider it to be an  impactful cinema’ . Well Chennai Express hasn’t given me any material for future allusions for now I suppose, As a strong SRK admirer I have to state this horrible fact that I don’t recall any of its prime scenes to discuss it with one of my partner in movies (It’s a serious matter of concern for a movie buff). I can even savor talking at lengths about SRK-flops like Ramjaane, Trimurti, Chahat but not this one, Alas!

Rahul (Sharukh Khan) a forty year old miserable sweet-shop chain owner is living a captivated life with his happily old grandparents, when his almost immortal grandfather dies at ninty nine (Thanks to Sachin Tendulkar) only to give him some solace. On his quest to be in Goa with his guy friends he decided to betray his grandfather’s last wish to get his ‘half’ ashes immersed in Rameshwaram (Beautiful place i must say) But destiny laughs at his plans and gives him an uncertain blow when he hops onto a life changing journey in Chennai Express only to hoodwink his granny and bumps into a beautiful Tamil belle (Deepika Padukone) and his life takes a different enroute altogether. Deepika has done a decent performance to acquire some accolades out of her character’s typical accentuated humor. In a scene where, Khan says to Deepika that she has a ‘Single screen cheap humor’ well frankly he himself clears much air about the whole film.

Now as a Sharukh Khan fan I can’t defend Chennai Express more than sticking to this fact:

That if a movie like this can get them crores, what is they really made something amazing!

As Rohit Shetty often  proclaims that he wants his actors to be overtly loud in their performances             ( Remember Abhishek Bachchan in Bol Bachchan?) well on that part Khan must’ve lived upto his expectations as he has done this overtly thing very naturally in this film, after all its his forte. Well aware of Khan’s screen presence Rohit shetty hasn’t dared to miss him even from a single frame, so in a way it’s a treat for SRK lovers.

Undoubtedly many of the times (CE) seems to get derailed, at times you may feel Chennai Express is a remix version of Khan & Shetty’s hit films. But out the blues if you happen to be a ‘Shetty’ watcher you may know  to brush off such unpardonable facts. Though when you look out of this Express you would witness some really exquisite vistas of Southern India.

Watch Chennai Express for an over the top one timer romcom with an effervescent screen presence of Sharukh Khan. Watch it for the intensified scene where Khan says(In Singham style):

‘Kya Karun Common man hun khissak Jati hai Kabhi Kabhi’

You won’t like (CE) if you know what not to expect from an intriguing comic flick or to simplify things if you have seen cult “Andaaz Apna Apna”

If you ain’t Tamil you may get distracted with the excess allusions of this very language that even naive Rahul and his subtitle Meenaamma can’t save you.

But… But…But if you are a Sharukh Khan adherent (As one can either hate or get addicted to ‘him’ no middle grounds) and have the audacity to overlook shetty’s inevitable follies (and this so-called 100cr record screeching out that there are a lot many of you) then stop being pretentious! be your own critic and get entertained. Therefore as Sharukh Khan would say ‘outstretch your hand and Get Set Po!!!’ to board this train who knows you might get picked up by SRK himself or simply save your money and wait for some upcoming ‘intriguing’ flick’s review.
