‘WORDS CAN CHANGE’ Campaign

“My task, which I am trying to achieve is, by the power of the written word, to make you hear, to make you feel–it is, before all, to make you see.”

-Joseph Conrad (Lord Jim)

Since time immemorial mankind has always understood the power of words. Whether it was the first one uttered which gave us all meaning to our unfathomable sounds, or the one that brought Literature around, or the one that gave way to the raging wars, or the one that brought freedom to years of struggle for independence. A lover’s proposal, a politician’s victory, a businessman’s deal or a friend’s promise they all stand at the verge of just the right words. Then why have we forgotten the magical wand we all had within us? Why did we forget to even try to use our weapon for a better world? Have our ignited minds forgotten to believe in our own strengths? Oh Mankind! Have we forgotten-

“Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.”

‘Words Can Change’ campaign is a step I, Komal Sharma, propose to take over the day by day degrading condition of our nation. We at The Germ, from now on in our every edition will talk about one thing we think our future of Glorious India needs to eradicate right away.

Our motto would be-  Any problem one solution. Talk, talk about it till the time every heart and mind has received our message to change.

We all remember our childhood. We all have that one memory where we pestered our parents to buy us that toy we loved like “till death do us apart”.  That is going to be the same path we will walk together on. We will nag those heads till those deaf ears open the shutters of their brains. Till they realize they are part of this nation and to set it right is their Job. No more complaining, no more blaming- it is the time to do it our way.

So, if any of you has anything you want to change about this nation as little as a mice or as giant as an elephant, send us your articles and suggestions you think will contribute to ‘Words Can Change’ campaign @

With this I begin with the very first Plea-

PLEA #1 – DO NOT LITTER.

On again and again being called an OCPD freak, I wonder how much this complaint is going to make my friends chuckle. But to me cleanliness is the foundation.  A clean room defines a clean person. It gives you a healthy vibe. Positivity flows in the aura. Same goes with the Nation. It breaks my heart when I can’t walk 10 meters without being disgusted with the litter conditions around, and especially when there is a garbage bin right there all unused. It breaks my heart, when I see people uttering “Yeh india hai, yahan aisa hi hota hai”.  All I want to ask you guys is, how difficult is it to walk a few more steps and throw the garbage at the right place. Will it not make you feel satisfied that you did contribute in your own little way to a better tomorrow, or if nothing that at least you did not do anything wrong?

I remember a conversation with a friend where she left an empty can of soda in a bookstore as she was tired of carrying it around. What I was more amused at was the no sense of guilt that, ‘I did something wrong’. All she did was smile, and apparently I was the one who was supposed to understand!! Do we even realize that all the littering we do, results into such hazards to environment and contributes to our Unhealthy Tomorrow. There is an incident where 32-50 kg of plastics was found in the stomach of 36 cows. I wonder how many of us even know stats like that. Thanks to Wikipedia’s page of NDTV’S GREENATHON campaign, that I stumbled across this fact.

We complaint our government is not taking the right steps. We crib we our falling into pieces as a nation. But what about the pieces that we throw around knowingly even when our government has done their job of providing the right place to dispose your trash.  I really respect those who sometimes carry the trash back in their bag to their homes just because they could not find a dustbin. The world around may laugh at them but to me they are the real heroes.

Let’s all of us make our contribution by doing the right thing. By not behaving like a careless citizen. Trust me seeing you, many will follow as it is a known fact we are a nation of Blind Followers, why not use it for a good cause!

Hope to see a change soon. Share the words. Share one and all because-

The world is not an ashtray.
